This Is Not Same Old Same Old
Wherever I go, I find believers who sincerely want to know the will of God for their lives. They want to know the assignments He has for them, and so do I for my life. But I often find that what we're looking for is some big assignment, something really special, when God has already laid out our assignments in a way that is easy for us to disregard or overlook.
The key is found in this statement by the apostle Paul: "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). That tells me that God has already prepared a way for us to walk in His will. And how do we walk in it? By our good works. Paul is saying that when you gave your heart to Jesus, you received the spiritual DNA of Almighty God and became His new creation. That means you are predisposed, or newly created in Jesus, for good works. So when you think, "I want to know God's assignment for me," that's God's drawing you to do the good works He has already prepared for you to do—that is His will.
That means raising your children right and serving them with all your love. That means going to work every day and providing for your family. It means endurance, patience, and longsuffering through the challenges. If you're faithfully doing the daily works that are already there for you to do, they are working in you and leading you to fulfill your destiny. We need to see these "good works" not just as our duties but see them for what they are—they are "good," they are pleasing and honorable in God's sight, they bring Him joy, and they are shaping our lives by His handiwork.
The enemy doesn't want you to see your good works as fulfilling the will of God for you. He wants you to see them as just more of the same old same old. What's interesting is that when the enemy brings a big challenge against you, God says, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:21). How do you defeat the enemy? You overcome the challenge but continuing to do your good works, because they keep you moving toward the fulfillment of God's will for you.
Every good work is moving closer to your destiny. It's not one big thing; it's an accumulation of your good works. You are where you are today because of the good works you did yesterday. You were willing to work through whatever tried to hold you back. Now stand in the blessing of God and move forward in the obedience of God!
