Freedom is on the Way
By Joel Osteen - Aug 24, 2018
Have you ever wondered why you can’t seem to get ahead, why you can’t break an addiction, why you can’t control your temper? We all have forces that are trying to hold us back. Those are chains that are restricting us. Chains of guilt—beating yourself up for past mistakes. Chains of depression—a dark cloud follows you around. Chains of low self-esteem—you never feel good about yourself. Perhaps there’s a recording constantly playing in your mind, “You’re not attractive enough. You don’t have a good personality. You’re not talented.” That’s a chain. It’s easy to accept it and think it will never change. But you were not created to be bound, whether it’s by loneliness, by shame, or by negative words spoken over you. The good news is our God is a chain breaker, and He’s about to step in. This is a new day. Freedom is coming.

In Luke 13, Jesus saw a lady in the synagogue who had been sick for eighteen years. She was bent over and unable to stand up. In answer to the religious leaders who condemned Him for healing her on the Sabbath, Jesus said, “Should not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has bound for eighteen years, be loosed from her sickness?” He described the sickness as a chain. He said she was bound. He touched her and instantly she was healed. Whatever has you bound, whatever is restricting you, God is saying, “This is your time to be free. It is not your destiny to go through life with something limiting you.” If you’ll let this take root, I believe that every chain that’s holding you back is being broken.

Get in agreement with God. Freedom starts in your thinking. You have to stop thinking, “I’ll never break this chain of depression or sickness, or these chains that have been passed down in my family line.” The difference with you is the Chain Breaker showed up. You’ve been set free. You’re the one to set a new standard. You’re the one to defy the odds. God told the Israelites, “The enemies you see today, you will see no more” (Exodus 14:13). Those things that have held you back for years, you’re not going to see them anymore. This is a new day of freedom, of wholeness, of increase. I can see chains of debt and sickness being broken, chains of fear, insecurity, and low self-esteem falling off. You will see them no more. By faith you can say, “Father, thank You that my chains are gone, and I am free. Every force that’s holding me back has been broken.”
