Hope On
What are you hoping for today—perhaps a better marriage, a strong family unit, a job promotion, or maybe that you’ll have a child? Is it a vague hope? I ask that because the word “hope” is used so loosely that we forget the power of hope. I hear people say, “Well, I hope that happens.” Hope is far more than that. Hope comes from heaven! First Corinthians 13:13 says that hope is eternal.
God wants you to get your hopes up. If God has spoken a promise to you, if you found a promise in His Word that you believe God has given you, I encourage you to put hope in front of that promise. God created this hope inside you, and He doesn’t want you to be vague about it. Hope creates vision! Hope gives your faith something to attach itself to, something to pursue. You need a picture of what you’re going after to keep that promise alive in your heart, to create a vision so you can make it through the difficult waiting times.
The story of Abraham and Sarah is the classic biblical story of hope and faith. When God spoke a promise to Abraham that he and Sarah would have a son, it birthed a promise in his heart. But Sarah was far past the age of conceiving a child, and the promise seemed an impossibility. So what did God do? Genesis 15:5 says, “Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’” God gave Abraham a beautiful visual to build his hope around. How many times did Abraham try to count the stars and use them to hold on to this hope in the years that followed? And the Bible says that Abraham “did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and empowered by faith” (Romans 4:20). He could “hope on” against all natural hope because he kept his eyes fixed on Almighty God, and that hope fueled his faith to the point where Sarah had the strength to conceive Isaac.
That promise God put in your heart—don’t let that hope go. Because of hope and faith, you can conceive the things that God wants you to bring forth in your life. Get a visual for it and put it where you’ll see it every day so your faith knows where to be directed and what to hold on to. When God brings it to pass, it will be more than you can ask, think, or imagine!
