Ignite the Promise
By Joel Osteen - Aug 14, 2020
In the Scripture, God has given us hundreds of powerful promises that say we’ll live an abundant life, we’ll be healthy and whole, we’ll experience favor, increase, restoration, and on and on. But as encouraging and inspiring as the promises are, on their own, they won’t do you any good. You have to add an ingredient that activates the power, that makes the promises come alive and become what God said. Hebrews 4:2 says, “But the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”

When God brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, He said the Promised Land was theirs, that all they had to do was go in and possess it. He promised they would defeat every enemy and come into abundance. But when the ten spies came back with the report that the people were too big and powerful, the two million people became afraid and wanted to go back to being slaves. Instead of mixing in faith with the promise, they mixed in doubt. They mixed in unbelief. What happened? God’s Word did not profit them. To profit means they didn’t see increase, they didn’t overcome the challenge, they didn’t have the favor. It was not because God wasn’t able, not because the promise somehow lost its power; it was because the promise wasn’t mixed with faith. They never made it into the Promised Land.

What are you mixing in with what God promised you? God says He’ll make streams in the desert, that even in famine you will have more than enough. “Joel, I don’t know. This pandemic has slowed my business. I don’t see how I could ever get out of debt.” You’re mixing in the wrong thing. The promise is powerful and can open doors, but it’s not going to profit you. There’s only one ingredient that activates the power of what God said, and that’s faith. How do you mix in your faith? You agree with what God promised. “Lord, thank You that You can do the impossible and bring me into increase. Thank You that Your favor surrounds me like a shield.” That’s not just being positive, that’s mixing in your faith.

God’s promises can bring healing, can restore relationships, can catapult you to a new level, but they won’t do you any good until you ignite them. You’re on the verge of God doing something you’ve never seen. Why don’t you start mixing in faith with His promises today? Faith ignites the promise, and powerful things happen. When you believe, angels go to work. When you believe, supernatural doors will open. When you believe, you’ll defeat giants. When you believe, you’ll accomplish dreams much bigger than you thought.
