When Life Takes You By Surprise
By Victoria Osteen - Sep 02, 2016

Are you in a situation that you just can't seem to make heads or tails of? Has life taken you by surprise recently? Maybe you've tried and tried but you just can't see how things could ever work out.

Many times in our life, Joel and I have found ourselves facing the unknown. We knew we'd have to be open to what we couldn't see and didn't understand in order to make room for what God had for our future.

This was especially true when Joel's father passed away. At first, we couldn't see how so many details could work out and our options seemed limited. Up until that point, Joel had invested more than seventeen years of his life working with his father behind the scenes in the television ministry. Not only did they work closely together, but they were great friends, and Joel's entire career was tied to his father's ministry. Joel enjoyed working behind the scenes. It's what he was trained to do. But when his father died suddenly, Joel had to be flexible and open to a new way of thinking about the direction of his life.

It wasn't easy, but Joel repositioned his thinking and let go of the mindset that he was only a "behind-the-scenes" person. When Joel let go of what he knew, God gave him something different—a new vision for the future. Joel embraced the change knowing that God was using it to take us to the next level.

Do you need to reposition yourself today? Have you experienced a loss in your life? Whether it was the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or even the loss of a dream, God still has a good plan for your life. He wants to take you to a new level. Stay open and be willing to change. Anytime a door in your life closes, God always gives you the grace to move forward.

Remember, your life has seasons; there is a season to mourn a loss, but there is also a season to grow and press on to the new things God has for you. It's so important to reach a point where you are ready to let go of yesterday and embrace the bright future God has in store for you!

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland (Isaiah 43:19, NIV).
