Knowing Makes All the Difference
By Joel Osteen - Oct 01, 2021
We all go through disappointments and things we don't understand. It's easy to get discouraged and lose our passion. But God won't allow anything to happen that will keep you from your purpose. He's already taken into account every bad break, every person who walked away, every mistake you've made. What we can't see is how He's working behind the scenes. Sometimes He has to close a door so He can open a bigger door, or He'll move someone out of your life because they're limiting your growth. What feels like a disappointment is really the hand of God ordering your steps and setting you up to go to a new level.

If you only knew what God was up to, you wouldn't live upset. If you only knew how all things are going to work for your good, you'd get your passion back. Maybe you went through a loss, you're discouraged, thinking that you've seen your best days. If you only knew that God has beauty for those ashes, if you only knew the new doors that are going to open, the new friendships that are coming, you would live from a place of peace, knowing that the best part of your life is still in front of you.

In John 4, Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well who had been married five times and was living with a sixth man. She'd gone through great rejection and heartache, been taken advantage of, made a lot of mistakes, and felt ashamed, unworthy, unattractive, devalued. When she asked Jesus why He, a Jew, would ask her, a Samaritan who was despised by the Jews, for a drink of water, He replied, "If you only knew who I am and the gift that God wants to give you, you'd ask Me for a drink, and I would give you living water" (John 4:10). He was saying "If you only knew how I'm about to heal your hurts, restore your sense of value, and thrust you into your purpose, you would gladly give me a drink of water." She came to the well defeated and broken, but she left with a new passion, a new self-image, knowing she was valuable, redeemed, and forgiven, a child of the Most High God.

You may have made mistakes, had people do you wrong, been through bad breaks. God is saying to you, "If you only knew what I'm about to do. If you only knew how I'm going to make miracles out of your mistakes. If you only knew how I'm going to restore you, heal you, and still make something great out of your life. Just trust Me, and get ready. I'm about to do something awesome in your life."
