The Power of Words in Your Home
By Victoria Osteen - Jul 29, 2016

Scripture tells us that there is life and death in the power of the tongue. Think about that for a moment. Maybe you've heard that verse before, but today, ask God for a deeper understanding of what that truly means.

Too many times, we say things and think they don't matter. But if we considered the power behind our words, we might choose them more carefully. Our words are like seeds, and they will produce fruit. Everything you have in your life today is a direct result of what you've been saying and believing up to this point. You may think those words don't matter, but those words are being planted and will bring a harvest in the future.

We either speak blessing or cursing. I've heard some people say, "Oh, I can't wait for the kids to grow up and move out! I can't wait to be an empty nester." Really? You may be saying it lightly because you are frustrated or tired in the moment, but those words fall heavy on little ears. Those are really words of rejection. Those words translate, "I don't want you here. You're a burden to me." I believe we should choose to say nothing at all before we speak words that are destructive to the hearts of the hearer.

Maybe no one spoke a blessing over you growing up. Maybe no one spoke life over you and it's difficult to speak life over your family or loved ones. You can choose to leave something different than what you were handed. You can sow seeds of life instead! Start by simply saying, "God, thank You for blessing my children. Thank You for my marriage. Thank You that we can do all things through Christ." Let those words of faith and power bring a harvest of life and blessing! Choose your words carefully and always remember the power of words in your home!

"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." (Proverbs 18:21, NIV)
