Have you ever felt as though you give your love and give your love, but you're not getting love back? I'm sure that's how the woman that Jesus met at the well in Samaria felt. He was fully aware that she had had five husbands, and that the man she then had was not her husband. It's interesting what Jesus said to her about the water she had come to draw from the well: "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4:13–14 NIV).

Jesus was saying to her, "I have a flow of living water that will fill you up with love, and you won't find it anywhere else." In reality, the only way we can walk in love is to allow the love of God into our lives first. We may try to love, but we don't have the capacity to love on our own. It's like trying to drink from an empty glass. The reason I can say that is found in Jesus' answer to the Pharisees' question: "What's the greatest commandment in the law of Moses?" "Jesus replied, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind'" (Matthew 22:37 NIV). The Pharisees thought that if they could keep the law, they would be right with God. But Jesus was saying, "You can't keep the law. You need a Savior, which is why I'm here—to make it possible to keep a continual flow of love coming." The Lord Jesus Christ is the only source of love that never runs dry! The Bible says God is love. When you come to Him, you're coming to divine love.
