Between You and God
By Joel Osteen - Nov 16, 2012
The Scripture talks about "the hidden petitions of your heart." I believe those are things that are supposed to be between you and God. Sometimes, people get off course because they share their dream with people who can't handle it. Sure, that person may want the best for you, but they may not fully understand what God has placed in you, or they may not have faith for it like you do. You have to resist the urge to go around telling everyone all of your goals and dreams because some things are meant to keep to yourself.

If Joseph would have understood this, it would have saved him a lot of heartache. As a teenager, he had a dream that his older brothers would bow down before him one day. God was showing him that he was going to lead a nation and have great success. The mistake he made is that he went out and told everyone. Now, his older brothers didn't get excited about the fact that they were going to bow down to him. That just didn't go over so well with them. Certain dreams you should keep to yourself. You may be excited, but other people are not going to be as excited. Like Joseph's family, they may not celebrate what God has placed in your heart. You'd be much better off to just learn to keep it to yourself.

Mary, the mother of Christ, handled her dreams differently. When she was a teenager, the angel appeared to her and told her she was going to have a baby without knowing a man. But, Mary didn't go out and announce it to the world. She didn't run and call "TMZ" and say, "I've got some big news." The Scripture says "she pondered it in her heart." In other words, she kept it between her and God. She was wise enough to know not everybody would understand it, and some people would try to talk her out of it. Some people would make fun of it. That's why we have to learn to keep those dreams to ourselves and let them take root in our own spirits.

Today, whatever that dream is, whatever that God-given desire is, hold it close to you. Ponder it on the inside and let it be between you and God. Trust that at the right time, He'll bring it to pass because He loves you and desires His best for you!

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart." (Psalm 37:4, AMP)
