Bringing Change into Your Relationships
By Joel Osteen - Aug 09, 2010
We have a good friend by the name of Norvel Hayes. Years ago when his daughter, Zona, was in her late teens, she got off course. She started staying out all night and living a very wild lifestyle. Norvel was very stern with her. When she would come home late, he'd be waiting there just to let her have it. This went on month after month, and it didn't seem like anything was getting any better. As a matter of fact, it was getting worse.

Norvel is also a minister. One day he was praying and said, "God, when are You ever going to help me with my daughter, Zona?" He heard God say something directly to his spirit, "Norvel, I'm going to help you as soon as you start loving her." Norvel replied back, "God, what do you mean? I do love her with all my heart." God said, "Well then, quit harping on her. Quit threatening her and start showing her that you love her."

From that day forward, Norvel never said another harsh word to his daughter. He started telling her, "Zona, I love you. I believe in you. I'm proud of you. I know God has something great in store for you." He started speaking blessing over her life. When he changed his approach, she changed her response. It didn't happen overnight, but over the next several months, Zona totally turned her life around. She rose to the level of what he spoke over her. He brought change into the relationship by doing things God's way and set the stage for a miracle.

Do you need to see change in your relationships today? Let it start with you. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how your words and actions can influence the people around you. Whether it's a child, friend, spouse or coworker, you are a person of influence. Let God's love shine through you and open the door for His blessing in every relationship in your life.
