Look Forward to the Little Things
By Joel Osteen - Jun 02, 2010
One time I heard Deion Sanders, star football player, talking. More than anything else in the world, his dream was to win the Super Bowl. He trained and trained year after year, working tirelessly. One day his dream came to pass. He won the Super Bowl. As he was talking, he told how he went home that night after the big celebration and felt really disappointed. He thought, "Is this all that it is? I've worked all these years and reached the pinnacle of my career. I thought it would be different. Yes, I'm happy. Yes, God has blessed me. But it's just not what I thought it would be."

Sometimes, we can spend our whole lives trying to reach a goal only to find out that it's not what it's cracked up to be. We can invest so much time and energy, and when all is said and done, we can feel disappointed just like Deion did. That's why we have to realize that the real joy in life is found in the simple things. Things like spending time with your friends and family, getting up early and seeing the sunrise, taking a walk through the park, taking your daughter on a date, going on a bike ride with your spouse. Sure, the big goals and accomplishments bring us a sense of satisfaction. They are part of our journey here on earth, but they are only temporary. You can't live off your "Super Bowls." You can't live off the big events because what impacts your life most is what happens on a daily basis.

Today, look forward to the little things. Stop and smell the roses. Let the simple things put a spring in your step and a song in your heart so you can enjoy the God-given blessing that each day has in store for you.

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (I Thessalonians 5:18, KJV).
