Make Preparations
By Joel Osteen - Dec 23, 2009
At this time of year, so many people are making preparations for the holidays, buying presents, decorating their houses, preparing special meals. We know that Christmas is coming so we get ready for it. In the same way, we have to get ready for the good things God has in store for our futures!

Not long ago, I read a story about Gavin McLeod. He's an actor and probably best known for playing the captain of the Love Boat, a popular television show years ago. He and his wife Patty had been married for seven years. They hit some bumps along the road and Gavin left. He told how he was caught up in his career and just wasn't making good choices. He and his wife ended up getting a divorce and Patty was just devastated. She never wanted it. Instead of just giving up, every day she started thanking God that one day Gavin would come back home. She believed that one day that relationship would be restored. Then she took it one step further and started putting actions behind her faith. She told how every night, instead of setting one place at the dinner table, she would set two places. She was making preparations for him to come back home.

One day, three years later, there was a knock on Patty's front door. She opened it and there stood Gavin. She smiled and said, "Come on in. You're dinner's getting cold." Today, they've been remarried for more than twenty-one years.

What are you believing God for today? How are you waiting? Are you negative, discouraged, or frustrated? Instead, choose to stay hopeful. Learn to wait with expectancy. Get up every morning and thank God that the answer is on the way. Then take it one step further, and start making preparations for the dreams God has placed in your heart. Talk like it's going to happen; act like it's going to happen. Keep the right attitude because God promises that in due season, at the right time, He will bring you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.

One final note:

Last week, Victoria and I had the privilege of being guests on Larry King Live. Larry and his team are always so kind and gracious. If you missed the program, you can see clips here<link to YouTube channel>
