It’s Already Yours
By Joel Osteen - Sep 16, 2009

Back in 1988 when my father was Pastor of Lakewood, we had just built a new sanctuary. There was a large steel frame building on the property that we didn’t need anymore, and you could actually take all the steel beams down and move it to another location.

My father decided to give that building to our friend, Tommy, who does youth ministry. It was extremely valuable, and Tommy was so grateful that my father gave it to him. But Tommy didn’t come pick it up for quite some time. Every time I drove by that building, I thought to myself “there’s Tommy’s building.” About two years later, Tommy came with a big crew and the cranes. They dismantled the building and moved it to his location.

Here’s my point: that building didn’t become Tommy’s when he came to pick it up; it became his the moment my father spoke it. That building could have stayed on our property for 20 years, but it still would have been Tommy’s. My father gave it to him, and it was up to him to come and get it.

In the same way, God has all kinds of blessings and promises stored up for you. They already have your name on them. He’s already spoken it. Now it’s up to you to come get them!

In Ephesians God says, “I have blessed you with every spiritual blessing.” In Colossians He says, “I have made you worthy.” In Psalms, “I have surrounded you with favor as a shield.” All past tense—it’s already happened. Now we’ve got to do our part and come into agreement with God. We have to “pick up” His promises from the Word of God and allow them to sink down on the inside of us.

When you get into agreement with God, something supernatural happens. It opens the door for God to release all those blessings and promises with your name on them. Choose today to get into agreement with God. Declare what He declares over you. Follow His commands and watch how He opens the windows of heaven to pour out His abundant blessing in every area of your life.
