Back to School
By Victoria Osteen - Aug 27, 2009
This week, so many of our kids, teens, and even adults are headed back to school. It’s a time of stretching, growing, and transition. It’s a time of adjustment. Teachers and students have to adjust to one another; parents have to adjust to new schedules; and even if you don’t have any children and aren’t headed back to school, you probably have to adjust your morning routine because of all the school traffic!

Changing, learning, and making adjustments are all part of growing. Too often, people get stagnate in life and just settle where they are. Sometimes fear can stop us and cause us to accept the status quo. But if we are going to be all that God has called us to be, we have to be willing to constantly make adjustments and embrace change. We have to look for opportunities to learn and grow.

God loves us the way we are, but He doesn’t want us to stay the same. He wants us to rise higher. He wants to increase us. He wants to stretch our capacity to receive all the wonderful blessings He has in store. Proverbs 1:5 says, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning…” (NASB). This tells me that we should always maintain a “back to school” attitude. We should always be open to grow, learn, stretch, and adjust.

Are there areas in your life where you know you can come up higher? Is there something you can do to sharpen your work skills? Is there room for growth in your relationships? Do you desire to learn more about God’s Word? Have you been avoiding a necessary change in your life? Maybe it’s time to go back to school. Maybe it’s time to reread some books, talk to a friend, or listen to some teaching tapes. I encourage you today, make the necessary adjustments in your schedule to keep learning and growing. As the scripture says, you will be wise and position yourself to receive the wonderful blessings God has in store for you.
