Get Ready to Be Surprised
By Joel Osteen - May 18, 2018

Sometimes we don’t see how we can accomplish our dreams. We don’t have the connections, the resources, the experience. It might not look as though it’s going to happen, but what you don’t realize is that you don’t need a hundred things to go right—just one touch of God’s favor and doors will open that you couldn’t open. Just one good break, one right person, one phone call, one healing, one contract, and what seemed impossible will suddenly become possible.

I received a letter from a young lady who lives in Africa. Her dream was to get her doctorate and become a college professor. She was preparing for her exams to get into the doctorate program and applied to a university in the U.S. But her landlord broke the lease on her apartment, forcing her to move right in the middle of her exams, which threw her study schedule way off, and she was turned down by that university. She was so upset that she was about to meet with a lawyer to sue her landlord. However, she always watches our podcast, and on that week’s message I talked about how we all have unfair things happen, but let God fight your battles. He can vindicate you better than you can vindicate yourself. She knew that was God speaking to her, so she let it go.

After being turned down by sixteen universities, she applied to a prestigious university in Italy. They really liked her but already had twelve people on their waiting list, so she was turned down. Two weeks later, they emailed back and said they’d never done this before, but they’d opened a position just for her. Out of hundreds of doctorate students, she had been chosen as one of six to be enrolled in their advance studies program, including a full scholarship and her own executive apartment. Her mind immediately went back to what seemed like a setback was actually a setup in God’s plan for her life.

The psalmist said, “The Lord will work out his plans for my life” (Psalm 138:8). You don’t have to work it out. You don’t have to struggle and worry and try to fix every problem, straighten out every enemy, and make things happen in your own strength. You can live from a place of peace, knowing that God is not only fighting your battles, but He’s lined up the breaks you need. He has the right people to help you and solutions to problems that you can’t even see right now. He’s on the throne. Get up every morning with the expectancy that He’s working out His plan for your life and get ready for God to surprise you.
