Awesome Power
By Joel Osteen - Mar 01, 2019

I know a lady who was on a flight when her friend’s blood pressure suddenly dropped, her heart started racing, and she felt like she was going to pass out. A doctor came to help and said there was nothing he could do, that her friend needed to get to the emergency room as soon as they landed. So in the midst of all the commotion, this lady knelt down beside her friend and started praying. Everyone was watching as she prayed, and her friend’s heart rate began to slow down and the dizziness began to clear. The man in the seat behind her was so impressed by what he saw that he said to the lady, “What is it about your prayer that did that?” About that time the plane hit severe turbulence, which made her friend’s heart start racing again. After about fifteen seconds of the plane bouncing up and down, this lady said, “Lord, make the winds calm down.” Right after she prayed those words, the turbulence stopped. That man’s eyes got really big and he said, “Lady, where did you get that kind of power?” She said, “It’s not me; it’s my God.”

When you believe that God wants to show out in your life, you have the boldness to ask Him to display His awesome power through you as this lady did. It’s good to read about His power, to talk about it, to remember it, but God wants you to experience it. He says, “I will perform miracles that have never been performed anywhere in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people around you will see the power of the Lord—the awesome power I will display for you” (Exodus 34:10). God says He is about to display awesome power through you. “Awesome” means it’s not going to be ordinary, not natural, but supernatural. He’s going to do something unprecedented, something that makes you stand out, something where there’s no explanation for it but God’s power.

God will make you an example of His goodness to show those around you that He is God. People are going to see His favor—the healing, the protection, the promotion, the abundance. Some people think you’ll never get out of debt, that the sickness will be the end, or that you don’t have the talent to get a promotion. They’re going to see God take you to levels you never dreamed. They’re going to see you accomplish goals bigger than you thought possible. Not only are you going to be amazed, but they’re going to be amazed. God’s not going to do it in secret. He’s going to make a public display of His power through you.
