Don’t Shrink Back
By Victoria Osteen - Feb 27, 2024

Have you ever heard a still small voice inside saying, “You can do this. You can do this,” when you don’t feel you have the strength to overcome a challenge you’re facing? Or that same voice is saying, “There’s more in store for you. Go for it,” when there’s a promotion you want to put in for at work that you think is beyond your abilities and you’re unsure whether you’ll be able to handle it. Or you hear, “Don’t shrink back in fear,” when a door of opportunity opens that you never thought was possible and you’re wondering why you’re even thinking about doing it.

Don’t  be surprised when God calls you to do things that are way over your head. He wants you to go beyond your ability and what you think you can do and tap into His ability. He’s always pushing us forward, but too often we push back because it’s the comfortable thing to do. Don’t step back. Don’t put limitations on yourself. You have exactly what you need inside, but the only way it’s going to come out is if you stand strong and you find it, because God is your confidence.

Here’s the good news. God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). That means that whatever you’re facing today, God has all the strength you need for it. He’s saying, “My grace is sufficient for today. Everything you need is here today.” Our problem comes when we try to work on tomorrow’s grace. We say, “But what about tomorrow, God?” and He says, “Don’t worry about tomorrow. Just work on today. I have tomorrow handled.” Looking ahead, we start to question ourselves and let doubts and fears creep in. “Maybe I’m not good enough or smart enough. What was I thinking? I don’t have what it takes.” And that leads us down the unhappy road to mediocrity.

God has already equipped you to do whatever He’s calling you to do. He put abilities in you that you haven’t discovered yet. Don’t shrink back and think you don’t have the talent—it’s already there. God says, “Let him take hold of My strength” (Isaiah 27:5). His strength will empower you in your weakness. Whenever you feel fear and doubt, you have to say, “God, it’s You and me. When I’m weak, You’re strong. We’re a majority. I know that when I am walking in Your strength, nothing can defeat me. You’ll add to me all that I need today. You’ll open the right doors for me. You’ll give me the ideas. You’ll renew my strength. I will not give up. We can do this together!” Take this step of faith and do it boldly.
