Today's Scripture
Numbers 11:1, NIV
Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused.
Today's Word
One reason the Israelites never made it into the Promised Land is that they started complaining about their challenges and criticizing Moses' leadership. Because of their negative words, they went around the same mountain for forty years. If you're not speaking grateful words, beneficial words that edify and build others up, do yourself a favor and zip it up. If you're critical, harsh, and condescending, you'll keep going around your own mountain for forty years. You can't be disrespectful to your spouse or your coworkers and become all you were created to be. You can't talk behind people's backs and reach your Promised Land, the fullness of your destiny.
The next time you're tempted to say something you know you shouldn't, pause for ten seconds and say, "God, help me keep my lips sealed. Help me to control my tongue." Proverbs says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. My question is, are you speaking life to your future, or are you speaking death?

Prayer for Today
Father, thank You that You created me to speak words of gratitude, faith, and encouragement to everyone, and especially to my family. Help me to not just zip my lips before I speak words that could harm, but to use my words to edify. I believe that You will help me to speak in a way that builds up. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
